Last year, the iconic “ghost” distillery of Brora reopened its doors after 38 years, following a painstaking three-year restoration process by Diageo.

The restored distillery blends tradition with modernity – the original still-house has been rebuilt as it was in 1819, but the site is now home to a biomass boiler powered by sustainably sourced wood chips.
 
In a fitting tribute to this grand occasion, the distillery has released an exclusive bottling, Hidden Beneath, which has been aged for 39 years and comes housed in a super-premium presentation case manufactured by GPA Luxury.
 
As with our pack for Brora’s 200th anniversary we used a wooden box structure with metallic hinges. The exterior of the pack is wrapped in metallic paper printed with a purple and blue illustration depicting the distillery wreathed in a ghostly mist – a nod to the many decades Brora spent closed. Further details on the exterior include gold decal branding and a gold plaque. We then covered the whole case in multi-layer gloss lacquer.
 
Inside, the box is lined with deep purple velvet and bordered with a machined and etched aluminium frame, which has been anodised gold. The bottle of whisky is held in a snug fitment backdropped with a contrasting ivory velvet panel screen-printed with the iconic Brora panther. To lift the bottle from its layered recess, the user simply has to pull on the purple grosgrain ribbon attachment.
 
Opposite the bottle, on the inside of the door, are two recesses that hold a gold plaque and a certificate explaining the story and tasting notes of Hidden Beneath.
