In 1848, Queen Victoria took a trip from her royal residence in Balmoral, Scotland to a small whisky distillery on the banks of the River Dee. So impressed was Victoria with this establishment – then named New Lochnagar – that she issued a Royal Warrant, allowing the distillery to adopt the word “Royal” as part of its name.
In 1988, 140 years later after Victoria’s visit, Princes Charles was gifted a special cask by the Deeside distillery. This whisky – contained in a single refill American oak hogshead – spent 30 years maturing in the historic vaults of Royal Lochnagar before finally being bottled in November 2018. Upon the request of Charles himself, the bulk of the 206 bottles are being sold off, with proceeds going to his charity, The Prince’s Foundation.
We are delighted to announce that the bottles produced by this aged cask are contained in MW Luxury packaging. Each pack was constructed from premium rigid board and is wrapped in deep navy, core-dyed paper with a woven texture. The pack is structured like a shoebox, with a hinge attachment that allows for the lid to be folded back and sit flush with the base.
On the front face is the Royal Crest, embossed and foiled in gold. Beneath sits the Royal Lochnagar branding – along with the all-important words “Aged 30 Years” – embossed, foiled in black, and embellished with spot UV. The final touch on this elegant front face is a hand applied foot label, printed on uncoated paper and personalised with the bottle number.
To access the whisky, you can lift the grosgrain, colour-matched ribbon attachment on the right of the pack. Inside, the box is wrapped in the same navy woven paper. The interior of the lid bears the same gold-foiled and embossed Royal Crest as the front, along with the story of this 30-year-old Royal Lochnagar.
The bottle of whisky itself sits in a rigid board fitment and can be slipped out with the aid of a ribbon attachment. Once the bottle has been removed, the gold paper at the bottom of the pack is revealed – a final flourish for a truly special pack.
